Q: Honda?????
I'm going to buy a new car and I'm curious as to why so many people drool over hondas and acuras (civics, integras, rsx, etc) and put all kinds of aftermarket accessories. Personally, I think most hondas (not all acuras) look kinda cheesy, especially the older ones with the exhausts and body kits. Also, looking at the 0-60 times, they don't compare to other sports cars. For example, the new civic si is 1 second slower than the new altima v6 coupe and 2 seconds slower than a mustang gt. What makes honda such a great racer company?? Maybe I'm just not getting something

A: they're not racers, they're ricers! Just like little girls get Barbies to dress up and care for, little boys get hondas and attach all manner of ugly/loud/hilarious body kits, lights, fart cans and crap. Everyone knows that the more aftermarket stuff attached to the ricer, the bigger the babymaking equipment of the babyboy driving it (I'd say owning it, but it's inevitably registered to his mommy).

Q: 1987 honda shadow 1100 - How many miles will the engine last?
I'm planning on purchasing a 1987 Honda VT1100 Shadow tomorrow, but the engine has 87,000 miles on it. The owner has had it his whole life and he says he has changed the oil every 2-3000 miles, which is good - but is it a wise decision to get this bike? I'm getting it for a great deal, but I don't want the engine to crap out in 10,000 miles. Thanks.

A: That wouldn't be too many miles on a car with a V6 but it's quite a few miles on a bike with a two cylinder engine. That bike was built when Honda really built them to last, but it won't last forever. I suspect another 10k-20k and something will let go.

Q: Will my little Honda Civic make it from the Midwest to Washington?
I have a 2000 Honda Civic and am planning a move from St Louis to Washington next month. I would like to just take my car and some belongings, but I worry about the car making it through the mountains. Any thoughts?

A: it should make it as long as its been looked after and has decent tyres. if you are really nervous about it do some checks on it like check the oil and water levels. if you dont know much about cars ask a mechanic to do the checks first before setting off.

Q: What month does Honda start giving out the end of year deals?
I am planing on buying a new car. What month should I buy a 2008 Honda?

A: End of year deals normally start end of November. If you would like a "Hot" Honda ( civic, accord, etc.) there will not be much if any of a selection, or depending on how choosy you are, be prepared to drive to get it. Incentives drying up on fuel efficient cars and will be smaller on 2009's, and from my experience in the auto industry, when corporate starts pushing end of the year sales, if we have a total of 200 new cars on the lot, 10 of them will be the previous years models ( over all models.) Not saying you will not be able to find one, you will just need to be very flexible and will need to pull the trigger asap when/if you find one. Good Luck!

Q: Why does my Honda Foreman 450S jump out of 1st and 2nd gear under acceleration?
I have a 2004 Honda Foreman 450 S with 1516 miles and 260 ish hours. Under even moderate acceleration it will jump out of gear, or not shift into it entirely. Does anyone have any tips or advice on how to remedy this situation?

A: The shifter linkage needs to be adjusted. If there is no adjustment there then it is internal and the shifting fork will need to be adjusted. The gearbox will have to be disassembled to do this.

Q: How is the 1997 Honda Accord Special Edition 4D different from the other accords?
I saw a ad for a 1997 Honda Accord Special Edition 4D. I was wondering what's special about this car, how is it different from the regular 1997 accord.

A: All the SE is, is a lx with some ex options. and maybe some different cosmetics

Q: What is the difference between the seat pan on a honda cm200t and a honda cm400?
I have a 1981 honda cm200t and found a honda cm400 seat and would like to know if it will fit or if I can modify it to fit mine. Thanks.

A: it will require a huge amount of reworking as it is too long too deep too wide and the mounts are totally in the wrong place and wrong size Try a CD 185 or CD200 or a CM125 seat as they all share the same frame as the CM200

Q: What should I do to get real good solution for Honda Pilot blew up engine?
I bought a new 08 Honda Pilot and the engine blew up at 3400 miles. Honda wants to just replace the engine and call the car fine. I feel that is not right for the car to lose it's engine that early and more should be done by Honda to offer in such case. Any advice or suggestion is appreciated.

A: i would ask for a full warranty instead of losing 3400 miles at least..,

Q: Why wont my 1989 Honda Civic start without rolling down a hill to pop the clutch?
My 1989 Honda Civic will not start without rolling down a hill to pop the clutch. I thought it might be the battery, but once I chnaged it, the car did the same thing. Does that mean the clutch has gone bad or is it something else?

A: It could be anything except what you mentioned. Obviously, the clutch and transmission and engine is working great. Could be just about anything in the charging/starting system. Starter, battery, alternator, switches, or other things. I'd start simple. If you "jump start" the car, does that work? I'd try that and if it works you know the starter and switch is good. If you can't jump start it then it's the starter/solenoid, (probably) or maybe a bad wire or switch. If it does start when "jumped" then I'd suspect the battery. The alternator is a possibility, but you said you charged the battery, so if it was a bad alternator, (causing the battery to go flat due to lack of charging current) then charging the battery would have fixed it temporarily. So that would leave the battery. Even though you applied a charge to it, that doesn't mean it did charge up. In fact, that's the definition of a bad battery. I've heard of other more esoteric problems such as faulty switches in the transmission or things like that, so if all the obvious things check out OK then you have to start digging. Good luck

Q: How long does a Honda usually last on average?
I have a 95 Honda Civic with 310,740 miles on it. I bought it from it's previous owner. And it still starts up and drives very well.

A: If they're taken care of Hondas will last a very long time. I live in what is called a "Honda town" and you wouldn't believe the number of pre-1994 old Hondas driving around. We bough a 91 Accord in 1999 with 150,000+ miles and it is still going strong. It needs a rear engine mount but they're really expensive compared to the value of the car so I just live with the vibrating. Several cars have come and gone in my family since then but we've always kept the Accord because it's so reliable and trouble free at over 200,000 miles (we don't think it was taken care of before we bought it). My friend is very hard on cars and in 2001 bought a 92 Accord that had 250,000+ miles; it was well over 350,000 miles when it was stolen a year or two ago. It had been in a few accidents so the the bumpers were held on with wire and the trunk was tied shut but there were no mechanical problems at all. I bought my 03 Accord with higher mileage than I wanted but I know it will last for as long as I need it to and in the two years I've had it all I've done is replace the tires and wipers. Just make sure to keep up on the maintenance, especially the timing belt, and it will last a long time.

Q: Why doesn't my Honda lawn mower start after replacing crankshaft?
I replaced a crankshaft on my Honda HR216 Lawn Mower and now it doesn't start. What did I do wrong? Replaced the spark plug and the air cleaner to no avail. HELP. With all this rain I will have to get a few goats to keep my lawn in good shape.

A: Check the timing! The most common mistake when reassembling a honda! Bring the piston up to "Top Dead Center". Remove the camshaft pin. Align the "Horizon Lines" on the cam gear along the edge of the head. Reinstall the pin. Replace the cam cover. Congratulate yourself on a job well-done!

Q: Anyone know how to fix a 1996 Honda Accord spedometer that only works once in a while?
Our 1996 Honda Accord spedometer works only sometimes, usually at freeway speeds only. Someone replaced one part for me (can't remember which part, but it was supposed to be the major one that all Honda's have trouble with) but that didn't make a difference. I've heard there are two major parts, and now I probably need the other one? I also hear this "other" part is expensive. Anyone here have a similar problem, or a mechanic that can explain it? Thanks everyone!

A: I had the same issue in my girlfriends 97 Accord Ex. I replaced the speedometer cable and all was well. After replaceing the cable I tore the old one apart and it was heavily corroded causing it to catch. The other part would be the vehicle speed sensor in the top of the transmission on the passenger side. On the automatics, some people remove the senser to top off the fluid,If it is not seated correctly or damaged this can cause a bad reading. Both of these parts should be available new on eBay for cheap.

Q: What is the difference between a Honda civic and Honda Prelude? What's better for upgrading for performance?
I love both the Honda Prelude and Civic hb and plan on getting one of the two soon. I want to have a car that has a lot of options as far as upgrading the performance of the car. Which car would be better for that? I preferably want to stay with Honda, but are there any other cars that are specifically good for what I want that may not be Honda?

A: i would say honda civic. the prelude is more powerfull but kinda heavy. consider also the acura integra..lol, i mean RSX. honda has a huge following, so aftermarket will always be available....search websites to see how much modifications will cost for each car. that might help you decide which is more bang for the buck. also, keep in mind that the accord had a larger engine, but the v6 only came with an automatic.

Q: Is it true that any brake pads besides Honda brake pads will cause squeaking and squealling?
I heard this from a service advisor at a Honda dealership hence my reluctance to believe him. So can anyone confirm if I should make sure my brake pads come from Honda. I think I've heard it from someone before back in the day but I'm not sure.

A: Yeah right. And always use only "Genuine Epson Ink" in your Epson printer. It's worth it, even though it costs 4 times as much as the stuff you can get online that works just fine! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! But seriously, use a good quality brand, with shims and anti-rattle clips if equipped, and do the rest of the job properly, and you'll be fine.

Q: How does the 2008 honda accord ex-l look in black?
I'm planning to buy a 2008 honda accord and I was just wondering how it looked in black. I haven't seen honda show it off so I was a bit concerned that It might not look to good. Honda usually shows off their metallic gray and midnight blue.

A: The Accord EX-L looks very nice in black. I saw one a coupe black EX-L the other day and just last week i saw a black EX-L sedan at the Honda dealer while getting my Prelude serviced. Sedan: http://www.autobase.com/photos/large/03650028.jpg Coupe: http://automobiles.honda.com/images/2008/accord-coupe/customize/base_car/BK_exl_34FRONT.jpg The reason you don't see them being show off though is because black has become a played out color for Honda, more people are buying the gray/blue/white cars nowadays than black.
